SWINGARM ON YZ450F???

ok so my 03 yz450f has a litle cap in the swing arm that i geuss keeps dirt away from the rear shock links? mine is missing..is this a big deal?..i like keepoing my stuff running and riding nice..any help is appreciated..thanx-josh
