MUD TIRES

Went mudding today, and did alright, but my stock tires werent helping much..

Couple buddies i went with, told me to look into mud tires.. One of them had Vampires and the other had Gators..

For around $350-400, what other tires are there that are GOOD for mud and trail..

They are for a 2004 Polaris ATP 500

I plan on using my factory rims..

Go with the Mud Lites, less power robbed from weight and awesome performance!! 26 inch would be the best for your bike, good luck.

I would not go with mudlites for mudding, they'll be good on the trail and light mud though. I would get some mudbugs in a 26 or 27" size. Get 12" wide rear and 10" wide front too. They will both fit on the stock wheels.

i was just looking at some Vampires, MudBugs or Gators..

Run about $70 a tire or so.. Checking various websites..

The guys i rode with today, had Vamps and Gators and i liked the way they performed..

I just dont want to spend a fortune..

im going to look to see what my bike has factory, as far as size..

i may jus order me a set of Vamps tomorrow, or go to my local ATV dealer and see what they have..

I put 26 inch mud bugs on my Polaris 500. They work great. The mud bug is the same tread as the gator. Keep in mind if you put 10 inch mud bugs on front one side will rub against your steering knuckle so you will need a set of spacers. Go with a tire that has a 9 inch front or with a tire that has no side lugs and you can go with the 10 inch. I put 28 inch dirt devels on for this weekend and those are 10 inch and they fit without the spacers because they have no side lug. You will be surprised with any brand aggressive tire over the stock. You will go in two wheel drive where you could only dream of going in 4 wheel drive with stock tires.

my bike's factory tires are :

front : 25x8-12
rear : 25x11-12

I am wondering can i fit a 26-9.5-12 on my front stock rims and 26-12-12 on my rear stock rims ?!?!

These are the ones i am looking to get, and just want to make sure they will work for my bike..

You may need a 1 inch spacer for the fronts. The 26 inch will be fine and the tires for 12 inch wheels will fit so those tires will be fine. I would look into a 9 inch wide on the frone and you probably will not need the spacers. I have 26X10X12 mudbugs on the front and I had to fit the spacers. One side cleared but the other side fit but it just barely rubbed the the steering knuckle.

i know someone with a foreman 450s with 28in. outlaws all the way around and it never gets stuck! the stock gearing on those hondas though is real low so it can turn them no problem..i dont know how the polaris is. the outlaw tires are also kinda pricey though..

i was told the highest i could go is 27's without a lift kit.. so i figured id go 26 to be safe..

my only concern is the tire width on the front..going with 9 inch wide instead of the stock 8.. Will it affect my turning or anything like that ?!?!

i am trying to decide between the ITP 589's and those Bridgestone Mud Hookers..

Its a $60 difference, so its not much $$.. I just wish i could ride a bike with both and see which i like better..

What do you all think of the Good Year Mud Runners..

to me, they look AGGRESSIVE as can be, but i just want to make sure first, before i drop the $$

i run mudlites on the rear of my blaster 200 and they hall @ss thru anything they won't, there is no spinning the tires on it any more went ta underhills and played in the mud with them and it just kept going and the same out at holylands, just keeps on going

Anything made by bridgestone isn't going to be aggressive enough. If you want a true mud tire I'd get some Highlifter outlaws in 27.



If I were you though, since you want more of an all-around tire that won't rattle your brains on the trail like outlaws, I'd get Maxxis mudbugs. Mudbugs have a 1.2" tread depth and do alot better than they look like in the pictures and do good on the trail.

if i am not mistaken, my bike can only handle up to 26's without having to do a lift kit and all that..

Buddy has vamps on same bike as yours.. they run smooth on the trails and run GREAT in the mud..ive done alot of research on all the different tires and the vamps are the best bang for the buck along with the mud bugs.. they do make the in 26"...

Just get some 35 inch boggers and weld them rim to rim and cut out every other thread line....


The mud bugs are a good tire, I am a fan of the gators. They are basically the same tire.

Keep in mind that the mud bugs do not make a 9 inch wide as far as I can find for the front and the 10 inch just will rub the steering knuckle on one side. You will need to get a 1 inch spacer for the front. I know this because I have them on my Polaris 500. I love the tread design and they are a great pulling tire. You will not be disappointed with them but if you can get a 9 inch mudlite up front you will bot need the spacers. The spacers are $114 on highlifter.com
