Hey, I ordered the new a arms for my wolverine.  One problem.  I had it all apart and was ready to put the new ones on and the bushings that hold the bolt in place didn't come w/ the new a arms.  I've hammered the hell out of the old ones to get them out and didn't get anywhere.  There's an 1/8th inch lip around the rim which won't go through the bracket.

Anyone know what can be done?

More than likely it has some sort of pivot ball in the a-arm. I have never worked on one of those but, usually there is a c-clip on either side that you have to get out with a pick.

I've already got that part of the quad taken care of.  I believe  you are talking about the lower ball joint and that connects on the tire side.

I'm talking about the double sided portion of the a arm that connects to the frame.  It's about 18mm in diameter and there's a bushing or rubber piece where the screw goes through.  It holds the screw in place.  The new a arm didn't come w/ the rubber piece and I can't get the old one off the old a arm.

By the parts break down it doesn't look like there is anything holding it in. You might try to have them pressed out.

Just a hunch, but did you call the manufacturer and see if the bushings were left out of the package?

Or, they might be corroded in place-try a torch and heat the old a-arm to expand it or break the bond?

Gotcha....only problem is that the yamaha dealership that is near the house is incompetent!  They seem to know nothing about quads.  Every time I have been in I know more about how to work on a bike than they do.

Couldn't see the pic on the link.  But you are right there is nothing 'holding' them or bolting the bushings in.  What holds them is a 1/8th inch lip around both sides of the metal and that runs all the way through the part where the bolt goes in.  I've hammered the hell out of them to try to get them to move and nothing budged.

Thanks for all the input....I'm still lost on what to do to get this ready for this weekend.

I got them after business hours today and was psyched to put them on.  It was too late for me to call them.  I'll give that a shot tomorrow.  I don't have a torch....IT200 suggested that.  I'm dealing with limited tools.  Thanks for the suggestions.

I can't imagine reusing an old bushing like that. I'd bet some parts are missing.

Gotcha....I'll have to check into that.  I sure hope it's easier than it appears to be.  I replaced one before and it didn't take anytime at all.  Of course it was used but it had the bushing already.

The dealers here seem to never have a single part that I need so it took me almost 2 weeks to get these freakin a arms and if I have to order the bushings it'll be another 2 weeks.

I hope I don't have to be off my quad for a month!

you need to find somebody with a press.  they must be pressed out and in you can reuse old bushing if they are still in good shape no cracks or chips and not dried out.

p.s. Find a nabor with a large hammor and a vice and you can get it out with a hammor but its really hard.

Hey QT, the new a-arms don't come with bushing's. when I replaced mine I used a c-clamp and a socket that is just bit smaller than the inside of the a-arm,and a  bigger socket that the bushing will fit in. It's a crude press but it work's. Almost forgot use alot of silicone spray also, pry back on the bushing a little and spray it in there. Hope this helps, Jason

QT

Any competent machine shop should be able to press those out for you for a couple of bucks if you can't do it yourself.

You can also rent tools for free at Autozone. Not sure if they have what you need but they have a lot of different tools.

Go buy one of those new Wolverine's and be in debt and barely able to make payments for another 4 years, but then again I do that for everything and I am always broke, lol.

Cody I don't make payments.  If I had the cash I'd have another wolverine.  Well, not the new one.  Yamaha put a kodiac engine in the new one instead of the yfz450.  Then thought they could call it a sport quad.  In a couple of years when they get another sport quad engine in it I'll be buying another.

I have to order the bushings for the a arms.  The company that sold them didn't think to ask me if I needed bushings w/ the a arms.  HMMMM I can't order a big mac and soda w/o someone asking if I want fries w/ that.  I don't need the fries to eat my burger or drink my soda.

I order a arms and can't do a freaking thing w/ them w/o the bushings and no one thought to ask.  What's wrong w/ this picture?   Huh

Oh well, looks like I'm not going to the clean up this weekend.  I could have borrowed Mike's quad again but it's a long drive to go get it then come up.  Catch y'all another trip.  Headed to Port St. Lucie in a couple of hours instead.  Have a great weekend.

Thanks again Mike for ordering the parts.

Was looking forward to riding with you again, sorry to hear you won't be there. Smart idea to pay cash for everything, makes it alot nicer. When the quad is fixed we need to plan a trip to np.
