Can anyone recommend some good spots for primitive camping? All I'm worried about is water access and privacy! I don't like campground where you have another tent 100ft away from you in clear view. I wouldn't mind driving to south georgia, but I'd like to stay as close to central FL as I can so I'm not burning up camping time in the truck. Oh and much like 80% of the people on here, I'll need to be able to bring a cooler of ice cold brew with me. Thanks for any suggestions!!

The FLORIDA ATV MOTOPLEX is exactly what you are looking for. They have water, hot showers and portolets.
It is in Madison, Fl. right off I-10.

motoplex would be a consideration if you're just going to ride, but don't count on that 100 ft of clear view, and it's a bit far if you want close to central Fl. I once camped at a lake in ONF. It wasn't too far from Big Scrub, but it was far enough that you couldn't ride there. You could trailer to scrub if you wanted to ride. But there was nothing. No water source (except for the lake) so you had to bring your own in. But it was quiet and very nice . But that was a few years ago. don't know if you can still camp there or not.

Your not thinking of blue sink are you?

Motoplex IS nice, I've raced there before, and it's awesome there are so many backing that place! But I'm not doing a camping and riding trip, just good ol pitch a tent, catch some fish, get a fire going, cook the fish, get good and drunk, sleep, wake up and repeat lol. Hotdogs for backup, just incase I get started on the brew a little early.
Nah just looking to get away to a nice private area and enjoy the outdoors like you should. I know people that go to alexander springs and say that's nice, but it seems that place is like ginny springs (sp) in G-ville, college party spot. Which is fun, just not what I'm looking for.

Thanks for sharing, let me know if you know anytwhere else!

Fisheating Creek near Moore Haven Fl used to have a primitive area that is deep in the woods and what you are looking for. Havent been there in many years.

Well you can camp on many of the lakes in Ocala as long as you are not talking of riding your atv in the same area.  I went for years to different lakes and camped and most times not have anyone around you.  If your taking kids and a wife or something I would be cautious unless there are several armed adult males with your group.

Yeah it would be just my wife and I. My son is too young to come with us yet. I know ocala has it's own community of harmless and harmful out there. I don't have a concealed weapons permit. Do you think FWC would give me a hard time? Or should I just wait until I have one? My wife can shoot better than I can and I'm a good shot, so that's a plus too.

Well when I camped out there I was with a buddy and we were both armed, I don't think I would do it unless I was with other grown men.  We never had any issues or anything but some guys in airboats did stop at our camp around 10 pm but they were just shooting the breeze with us but I did have my hand on my pistol in my jacket pocket just to be safe  Wink.

Now when I have gone alone or with my wife and daughter we stayed in the campground off of 40 (don't remember the name) something springs maybe, they had bathrooms and running water and such and it was safe but not right on any water and I had to trailer to my fishing spots.

Good luck

BTW, I did not have a carry permit but I could care less when I am out in the woods, I'm gonna protect myself.

Did they not just change the gun carrying rules for national forest recently?  Don't take my word for it but I remember something just recently about that.

Don't Know about the gun laws but I'll certainly check it out. I'm about to pursue a career in law enforcement so that's why I'm more concerned about the laws. My GOOD friends, I wouldn't trust to handle a gun in that kind of situation, sadly, atleast not the friends I want to join my wife and I on a camping trip. I appreciate the info man!

Definitely not worth damaging a future career.

Good luck,  Dave

No, not blue sink. We used to swim there a lot before the rope swing was removed from the right side of the lake. I was talking about a spot West of scrub. there is a nice lake but no facilities.

I camped at Half Moon lake in ONF it was somewhat primitive. Can't you backpack camp in ONF anywhere?
