I know this is old but Clay County opted out. It is illegal to ride atvs on any road, paved or unpaved, in Clay County. This includes ditches or right of ways.

I live in Clay county (opted out of dirt road riding) and it's gotten to be a hassle to load up to ride the atvs so we quit riding them a couple years ago. Since they just sat in the shed I traded mine for a 62 VW vert last July (that I sold in March) and my son just sold his this week...going to buy a couple new guitars and amps. I still have the yf60 but it hasn't ran in a while. I may buy new ones when my next son gets a little older but the state has taken the fun out of riding as far as I'm concerned, so maybe not. I wonder what the laws are like in Georgia? It's the same distance from folkston to my work as it is from where I live now. hmmm

General / Where to Ride? / Where to ride in NE Florida?

Alright. I used to be on here daily. We used to go down to Rodman Dam and ride but last I heard they closed the pit there and trails, etc. It's been about 3-4 years since we were down that way. I sold my atv and got out of riding. My boys still have theirs but never ride them anymore since we're in Clay Co and they can't ride on the dirt roads. We had been warned a couple times by deputies.
I was thinking about getting another atv or maybe a rail buggy. What's the current status of riding in NE Florida? Can you still ride out of Rodman? I read you have to have a sticker on your atv now? What about kids? I have a 9yr old and a 16 yr old...what do they need to have to ride legally? Is it worth it to get another atv or should I just build a rail buggy? What are gas-powered golf carts considered...thinking about getting one for the wife and the baby since neither have atvs.
Lot of questions, I know...I've just been out of atvs for a few years.

Just reading this thread from the beginning...
Obviously, the new WalMart is going up and the land across the street where we used to ride, is going to be a Home Depot and an outdoor mall similar to the St. John's Center.
A friend of mine told me about the place near Blanding & 16. He said he went out there and it looked pretty cool. He lives off 215. It's not very big from what I heard and as fast as everything is growing around here I'm sure it won't be okay to ride there for long.
I just moved off 218 west myself (well, actually further out). I'm off BlueJay now, was off Dolphin.

Trail 50 and Trail 70 in the mid-late 70s in Keystone Heights, in the 80s in Middleburg, I had a Yamaha 125 and a Suzuki 125 enduro while my friends had an 81 Odyssey, a Big Red, a 200x and my brother had an 86 250r. I also tried to follow on my Honda cb360 Now I just got back into them after many years of VWs. My brother just sold his warrior and got a raptor 660 and i'll have a new one in a few months hopefully.

I didn't take the atvs up there but I did cruise through in my truck on my way back from Orange Park. There were a few atvs and dirt bikes along with go cart type buggies and a few trucks. I managed to get stuck in some black mud in the 'yota, had to be pulled out by a K5 blazer. I can go through most of the place in 2wd right now but as more and more people start taking trucks through the holes it's getting deeper in some spots. I'm shooting for 4/2 or 4/3 to take the quads again.

I was talking to a friend of mine that is a civil engineeer for Clay county. He told me the spot on Brannenfield where we've been riding is NOT the proposed site for the super walmart. He said the walmart is proposed for the land across the street, behind the police station. He went on to tell me the biggest concern is the drainage and told me some of the details to that. Anyway... where we've been riding is owned by an investment group and is still for sale. It has been rezoned for high-density housing within the last few years.
Just a little info.

I was out there today in my truck for about 15 minutes. There's a lot of mud there right now. Anyone want to ride tomorrow (Sunday 3/20)? I might take the quads up there in the morning.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty clean out there other than that one spot. I heard that is the "proposed" site for a super wal-mart but I don't know if they have actually bought the land yet. I know the realtor signs are still up along Blanding. I'll ask my neighbor, he is a civil engineer for the county and has access to all the property info.

We went out this morning for a couple hours. Only saw a guy drive through in a Jeep and another in a Toyota, no atvs. It was pretty muddy through the trails. I got stuck twice and my son got stuck once. It was our first time going there. There weren't as many good trails as I hoped but it was way better than the powerlines where we usually ride and only about 10 minutes from the house.

I'm going tomorrow (Sat 2/19) for a couple hours since I can't make it to ONF. I drive a grey Toyota 4x4 with a red trailer, a red 250ex (me) and my son on his yellow 250ex. 904-449-6511 is my cell if anyone is in the area. ~Charlie

I know some people that have rode there but I don't know if they've been lately. I keep meaning to try it out but time has been against me lately. I saw someone riding out there earlier this week as I went by but I don't know if they got harassed or not. I may try it out tomorrow (Fri 2/18) or Sat. or Sun?? If anyone is going out there let me know. Saturday is the most likely for me.

There is a place to ride off of seasame street before horsetail in the power lines you can ride sports, but the 4x4 would be better.some real narly places in there good for jeeping too if your not stock
Yeah, that's right down the road from my house. It's not worth loading up to go to though, IMO. I ride there quite a bit but it's only a few acres.

One of my neighbors said they rode at Blanding & Brannenfield a couple of times. I wonder how long that will be allowed right there by the sheriff's station. Is it worth loading up the quads to ride there? I'm off 218W off N. Dolphin.

I was on atvconnection.com (I think) and did a search for Florida and there was a post on there to check out atvflorida.com. So I did. Soon, I will get down to ONF to meet/ride with some of you.
