1  General / Tech Corner / 400ex/450R/450ER Maintance question... on: February 14, 2008, 11:39:04 PM
Okay so I've got a really odd question... correct me if i'm wrong please... but isn't the Tranny in a honda 400ex or 450R or 450ER lubed by the engine oil? as is the clutch... I'm a motorcycle guy and I've never heard of a jap bike with a tranny or a seperate tranny fluid needed... I just read an ad for a 450ER which is a sport quad that the guy was bragging in the ad that he runs a decent 20w50 oil in the motor and 80w Gear oil in the tranny... so I'm trying to figure out where in the hell he's putting gear oil in a quad? I'm guessing he's popping the crank case fill plug for the oil which i'm under the impression isn't used on a honda for normal maintance like many other sport quads... and filling it with gear oil? please any thoughts on this subject i would appreciate... and if I'm wrong let me know cause I own a 400ex which could need the tranny fluid changed and so will several of my friends that have 400ex's.... I've also got a raptor and you have to add oil in the oil tank and crankcase for an oil change... but never heard of such a thing on the 400ex...

Hey all new to the site here and would like to say hello  =-)    I'm the new proud parent of a Raptor 700... I passed on the 400ex to the LiL Woman... and I hang out with about 6-8 other quad owners. We are all in the mandarin area and are always looking for new friends and new places to ride... We go to bostwick on sundays normally but are really looking for some places closer to ride... I'd love to have somewhere to go during weekday afternoons/ evenings and blow off steam for an hour or two... Anyone know of anywhere in the area? Backyard tracks or trails would be kewl... Anyone looking for some new friends to ride with? Everyone's good people oh yeah there's even a couple of mechanics in the bunch which are always nice to have around... Trails/ Tracks/ Heck even a dirt lot would be kewl... just somewhere we aren't gonna get run off from or have cop troubles... Post up a comment or shoot me an email...  thisismymessage@aol.com
10  General / Tech Corner / Oil Change TRX350FM Rancher 4x4 Help! on: December 22, 2007, 03:46:41 AM
Hi all I'm new to the site and looking for a little help, I promised a friend (a very un-mechanical friend) I would change the oil in his 2003 Rancher 4x4. I am looking for some step by step instructions if anyone has them. I have to change the oil in my Raptor and 400ex one day this week and if I can figure out any differances I will change his as well. So if anyone has a service manual or knows of a website I would really appreciate anyone who could post up directions. The only info I've been able to find states the oil change is very differant than my 400ex except for the filter which is the same. which calls for pulling both drain plugs (Oil tank and Crankcase) pull and replace filter then fill the oil tank. But my raptor calls for me to do the same plus fill the crank case so there are some differances. Just looking for the differances on this Rancher thanks for any help...
