General / Racing Scene / Re: SDTA Florida Flat Track & TT Round 5 April 29th

Derek/All, I just spoke with Bill, he is travelling on business in Oklahoma and does not have internet access. He wanted me to relay the message that Saturdays race is cancelled due to the SDTA racing on Sunday. The SDTA made the commitment to have TT classes at every M.C.S. race this year including this Sunday's race, the TT classes are also part of our 2012 points series and will earn year end trophies and awards to be handed out at the banquet on Dec 1. We will run the program just as we did at the last event with the TT classes running in the middle of the schedule. Please visit our website or facebook page for start times and other info. You are all welcome to race on Sat at Original Speedway Park with us as well, the track is 1/8 mile and very smooth and very hard surface. Best regards Shawn McNary, Ray & Ward Please feel free to call or email with any questions smcnary2@tampabay.rr.com727-647-3992

General / Racing Scene / Re: where is the SDTA board ?
|
on: March 30, 2012, 10:44:53 AM
|
You guys have very interesting opinions on "what killed the quad racing" quad racing is not dead just not very active that can only be attributed to the amount of quad entries that attend the SDTA events, if you want actual statistics I am happy to share them with you directly from the software. If you want things to change or you have problems with the SDTA all you have to do is come talk to us, posting negative comments on here is not going to fix anything.
We have the same rules for every class that attends our events, same laps same entry fees same starting procedure same everything. 2 races ago one of the quad riders asked to not be first on the track after the heats so we changed the order and they are no longer first out. RR Baby has a long winded post about many things most of which are facts, meaning the cost of fuel the drive time the amount of laps but every single rider that shows up has the exact same expense and some drive further. The 5 rider minimum has been in effect since Sept 2009 when we took over the SDTA, what we have done in the past few races when only 5-7 TOTAL quads showed up is also them to combine the AM/Open to race for $$ this is not something we had to do but felt compelled to allow the quads to race for $$. After reading your comments and opinions we will probably not do this at future races.
We closed the SDTA board because the SDTA is our business, the SDTA is an official licensed business in the State of Florida under the LLC, promoting racing and running the SDTA is exactly that a business how many of you believe we could continue to run the SDTA with 5-7 quads showing up if we did not have 70-80 bikes attending and growing. We are and always have been a organization that supports all classes including the Quads but you guys are making it very hard to continue with that same philosophy when you post things like this but NONE of you took the time to call me Ray or Ward or send an email to discuss this like Men and solve the problems.
I encourage all of you to attend our event on April 7th and enter both the Flat Track quad classes and the Quad TT class, if you are interested we can sit down like Men before practice is started and discuss your concerns as a group and hopefully move forward, 2:00 would be the ideal time, if not I understand and wish you guys the best of luck on starting your own racing series and organization and promoting your events scoring the events tracking the points organizing the year end banquet and talking with track owners to secure new venues.
The statement below is taken right from the email I sent to close the SDTA board.
Good Morning Mr. Bones, I wanted to bring it to your attention that the contact us link from the home page is not working, the message below is what comes up when you click on the link.
Please remove the SDTA tab from the child boards, this site is rarely used by our members anymore due to the SDTA growing and having our own website and Facebook page, we have our hands full with managing both of those which means this one is rarely used, ATV involvement in our racing series is subpar at best, we truly thank you for allowing us the opportunity to have the dedicated forum section and when we first started this was our only source of communication with our members.
Regards to all Shawn McNary, Ray Delacqueseaux & Ward Jones See you at the races

Zman, The core group of racers that attend our events live in the central to north section of the state which means a 3.5-6.0hr drive to get to Miami, I would have to guess that if you did build a track you would need more types of racing such as go carts and mini sprints to make the facility thrive. Are there any tracks that already exist besides Hendry? We called Hendry and they were not interested due to there overwhelming success with the car guys.
Jasper is 3.5hrs from the Tampa area and we love that track but our turnout always suffers due to the long drive.

Good Morning Tyler, Glad to hear Robbie has no serious injuries, we need to encourage him and all of our riders for that matter to invest in body armor or at least a chest protector, that clay does not give when you hit especially when your bike lands on you. I hope he is ready for the Dec 4 race. Shawn McNary

I have a set of Racer innova's that would work perfect on the asphalt, the rears are mounted on Yamaha bolt pattern wheels, if yuor interested in the tires I can dismount the rears and just sell you the tires to mount on your wheels.
PM me for my email address

Hey Derek, now your cooking with oil, I knew you would come up with some fine South Ga Engineering. Seriously it sounds like a great idea as long as it does not interfere with the rider when they move back on the seat. If its mounted from the back of the seat outward it would be out the way and easy to read. S.M.

Derek, If you have a numberplate on the hood and it is large enough and clearly visible then you will not have any problems passing the # plate inspection process, I encourage you to get creative for the rear and make sure there is also a large easy to read plate on the back of your quad.
We are open to suggestions and have been asking all yr with minimal effort from the quad entries, we are now forced to inspect prior to accepting entry fee $$ to avoid the issues that arise throughout the night. Scoring is difficult enough and we as organizers need to make sure our riders are doing everything in their power to help the situation. If plates are not clearly visible from a safe distance either in the tower or from the infield entry fees will not be accepted and racing will not be permitted.
Best regards Shawn

General / Racing Scene / *******Bill Cleary needs help this wkend at T-Bowl*******
|
on: August 28, 2010, 08:01:00 AM
|
Fellow SDTA Racers and Fans: Bill Cleary will be working on the Thunderbowl track and the surrounding property this wkend, meaning today and tomorrow. I know it's short notice but he would appreciate any help that you could provide. Bring your weedeater, mower, loppers, chainsaw or any other piece of equipment you can think of to help prepare the facility portion of the track. Bill will handle the track itself and the more volunteers we have to help with grounds portion the more time Bill can focus on the track surface.Leave your bikes/quads at home as this is a WORK day only.
Bill is shooting for an open practice day next Saturday Sept 4, HE WILL CONFIRM THIS BASED ON WEATHER AND TRACK PREP PRIOR TO NEXT SATURDAY, Do not show up unless Bill has posted on this forum that the track will be open.
As always thank you for your support Shawn

Derek, We have been reminding everyone at the riders meetings since the first of the yr when we posted the schedule and it should be posted on the forum and I'm also sure it was addressed in one of the first emails listing our schedule. You are the only one that assumed the points series ended at the summer break. I talked about it at the Jasper riders meeting as well, remember I brought up the question about going to the Amateur Nationals in Duquion and right after that I mentioned the 2nd half of the points series would start in mid Sept. Oh well you just have to change your signature to future 2010 Open Quad points series Champion unless Cabana or Ware have something to say about that???
