1  General / Open Discussion / Re: Attention Yamaha Rhino roll over victims.... on: March 31, 2009, 11:01:36 PM
When I buy my rhino next year and roll it.. I won't be blaming anyone but me.. Those people deserve a Darwin Award...
2  General / Open Discussion / Attention Yamaha Rhino roll over victims.... on: March 30, 2009, 12:59:25 PM
.... is what the tv said as I walked into the house from the garage. Another group of lawyers and idiots banded together to sue Yamaha beacuase Rhino's roll over. Well no @%#$! I don't understand how someone goes out and buys a toy like that, hurts themselves on it, then considers it the fault of the manufacturer. Is some sort of defect in the machine causing this or is it a defect in the thought process of some idiot traveling too fast around a corner? I would bet its the latter. If I were a judge.. I would laugh this one right out of court.. dismissed.. or even charge the people who are sueing with wasting the courts time. Do the world a favor.. if you hurt yourself on any type of offroad rig.. take a look at what you are doing, in the Air Force we call this ORM, Operational Risk Management. There is an inherent risk in any offroad activity.. heck, there is risk in all your daily activities... driving, breathing, making coffee.. and the list goes on and on...
Just a rant... Grin
be safe out there kiddies

Cool story.. I would have not been remorseful for killing the shark... I'm sure it wouldn't have been upset if the roles were reversed. It was a kill or be killed situation.. thats just how nature rolls.

Let me know if you figure that out because I have a dirt bike that is titled in FL but got sold to someone in AL. That guy sold it to someone in Georgia, and I got hold of it from its second GA owner making me the third. I ran the VIN and it is not stolen, and it does have a FL title, I just don't have it. In Georgia it makes no difference but it is a pain being so close to FL and trying to sell something.
6  General / Open Discussion / Re: Need help proving my girlfriend wrong! Do you tip the Stanley Steamer Guy? on: March 08, 2009, 09:31:09 AM
When was the last time you got a tip for doing your job? That may sound a little jaded but I am pretty sure that guy is collecting a paycheck for what he does. As for the argument that he is blue collar and probably lives paycheck to paycheck... so what.. so does most everyone else.. no matter what tax bracket they fall in to. Until this recent economic crap reared its ugly head there were plenty of jobs out there.. theres also college, or a trade school, where he could learn some skills that would better himself and maybe help him climb a couple of rungs on the ladder of life. Additionally he didn't go out of his way to do anything special from what you have said.. so where is the tip warranted? I am not a miser, and I do volunteer a lot of my time to Habitat for Humanity.. but as far as giving my hard earned money away... I need a lasting impression.

Are you still having this problem?
8  General / Tech Corner / Re: 2002 400ex jetting carb?????????????? help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on: November 26, 2008, 10:54:37 AM
Here is a pretty good article on how to adjust that screw properly, if you are having problems mid-range + it is your main jet, if not, try this:

http://www.thumperfaq.com/mxa_thumper_fuel_screw.htm

Its not specific to your bike, but it is they way all 4-strokes are done (it even does a little explaining of the difference between 4 and 2 strokes)

Also remember that it is getting colder outside and what you set it to now may no be optimal when it warms up, this becomes more and more apparent when you do more performance mods.

does it smooth out past half throttle?
10  General / Tech Corner / Re: 1997 300ex chain on: November 26, 2008, 12:14:42 AM
1. Locate bearing carrier clamp bolts on very back end of swing arm-loosen but do not remove
2. Right beside your rear sprocket you should notice 3-4 slots (if you just got done with the bolts, it will be directly to your left)
3. Get a big screwdriver and use the slots to turn the bearing carrier, do this until you reach desired tension

Hope this helps you out

That screw your messing with is your idle air mixture and won't change anything above half throttle ( i am more than sure it only affects idle since your slide is closed until you start gassing it).. where are you running crappy at?
Read your plug and see if it is running rich (black and sooty).. if so, you need to go down in jet size, if it is white, you are running lean and need to go up..

Thanks everyone for the posts.. I adjusted the valves and it seems to be ok now.. thanks to a couple of buds and a few beers. for future reference the valve lash is .004 (.1mm) intake and .006(.15mm) exhaust for 300ex. I'm gonna re-jet too as I am a little rich on top end.. it has a 128, gonna try 126 see where that gets me.  Thanks Again
Jeff

It just all of a sudden started doing this. It was running fine, then when I rode it again a few weeks later.. it didn't wan't to run unless choked. I've had the carb apart 3 times to clean it since and it hasn't changed a thing.

The valves are ticking a bit, I can hear them, but I'm unsure of what they need to be set at.
15  General / Tech Corner / Re: 300ex carb problems? on: January 30, 2007, 06:58:06 PM
I thought of that but I don't know what they are supposed to be.. maybe someone could help me with that as well.
16  General / Tech Corner / 300ex carb problems? on: January 30, 2007, 05:32:08 PM
I have a 98 300ex and it does not want to run unless it is choked. I cleaned the carb completly and it is still the same. It runs completley normal choked, but when I take the choke off, it dies. I changed the plug and ran it and it reads rich, which I figure is wierd since it seems to want more gas since it wants to be choked. I checked and double checked the boots and they are all tight and no rips or tears that I can see.  The jets did have a little garbage in them when I took the carb apart to clean it, but they were clean when I put them back in and it is still running the same way.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
Jeff
