i think i will be ready to ride by then so here we go! ive heard alot of requests for another speed ride in the forest so whos in? its a long weekend so that should help! im up for anywhere in the forest as long as we can ride all day without hitting the trail twice ;) we need to set a location by the end of this week so everyone can make plans. i say we get there around 9am, gear up and pull out by 10 am for the 1st run! come back for lunch and fuel when we need to! then head out for the 2nd run!

WoooHoooooo! ANOTHER SPEED RIDE!!! You know I'm in, I don't care where we ride. As far as Big Scrub goes, unless you've hit EVERY trail (which I seriously doubt) how can you be tired of it? Who else is in for this Loonie ride ;D?

I will try my best but I am not real sure when I am getting my bike back. I would love to go though assuming it is up and running by then and the location isn't really far.

Well its about time we planned this ride. You know I'm IN ;) Like I said the last time someone has to show you Honda guys around the forest. I really don't care were we ride just as long as we are riding, I just think Big Scrub is a good place to meet, because everyone knows where it at.

Hehehe, well that weekend sounds good to me, the FTR HS series start on the fallowing weekend, and I need all the practice I can get, this coming weekend I'm heading up to South Carolina with some friends for a Mid East Hare Scrambles race, it should be nice, a total different terrain and conditions then here in Fl. can't wait. (9 hours ride  :o) .

BOY!!! This may turnout to be a HareScrambles race. Couple of guys from GodFather racing, YFZ450Tampa (2nd runner up from the FTR series), Dreth & T2 (2 of the original Loonies), Hollywood (off of IR :D), Felix (Most stamina award), who else is in? I might not be able to keep up w/ you guys :-\.

Come on Rob !!! I know you are smoking on the MX tracks now, getting all kind of air on those jumps same as Wayne, that I hope he can joing us to. It will be all nice

Okay, it's true it's true! I made those comments. It's all in fun, but you know our pace (Myself, you, and Shawn) will be that as if we were in an all out race. (Ruiz will be there as well). If someone is behind me everytime I look around right on my arse... at one of the stops I'll ask him if he wants to swap positions(Like I did w/ you). I do that b/c I just may be slowing him down. If they're having problems keeping up w/ you or Shawn and when we get to a stop and you guys have your helmets off, bikes off, waiting for us, they need to be more in the middle I guess. Maybe we need to find out who wants to run up front w/ us and weed them out one by one if they can't keep the pace???. So far it has only been the 3 of us.

I haven't met any of you, but I'd like to try to make the ride.  Riding with the family is great, but I seldom get out of second gear.  Plus I figure if I aim right, I can tangle with a tree too, then I'll be forced to get some elkas and long travel arms ;D

just what i prayed for, another fast paced ride with a bunch of friends! life at its finest. well do a couple of short bursts so all the new comers can get an idea of the pace and choose where at in the pack they want to ride.

RULE #1 IS................. KEEP IT SLOW TILL I SAY ITS TIME! so Hollywood can actually get to ride this time ;) you know that s why he changed his screen name, cause he hit that tree so hard that he thought his name was Holly and all the Wood he had to pull of his quad ;) ;D  we love you Steve, we just want you along for the ride this time ;)

Alright Dreth, the time has arrived. Love the high sped trail riding! I will be there brother. Any of the wifes coming? I know some really nice trails north on 19 that run for a while with not many whoops and they bring you all the way back to camp at scrub.

I was thinking about that. Last time we had a slower paced ride for the slower riders and kids. If enough people come we could have a speed, moderate, and slow ride. All depends on the # of people that show I guess.

And don't get me wrong... It's no knock on the bike. Honda makes a sweet 450. It's the mofo on the bike :D. Honestly, I think he'll be up there w/ the fast group w/ a couple others.
If I can make it, gonna have to put the stockers on for this ride. Don't wanna take the chance of puncturing my Holeshots like T2 did last speed ride.

Blah blah all you monkies changing tires this new sprockets that. I'll be there on my 18's and MX geared burning yall down the trail. No tree is going to save yall this time. lol

Oh yea Well I ordered my graphics kit and is should be here B4 the ride, and if thats the case all of you are in trouble, its surpose to give me at least 10 more horse power they say its more arrow dynamic and it can go through the woods alot faster than the stock graphics kit. I cant wait  ;)

i am runnin stock gearing

just curious , i'm running 18 inch holeshots back and 19 inch up front with 4 psi all around on hipers . is that a problem . i dont ride in the woods and the track is just for fun . should i jump on the wagon and put the balloon tires back on . you guys tell me .

In terms of tires size, if you have your stock tires I'd go w/ them. This will be a highspeed ride and most of time we'll be in 3rd, 4th, 5th gear. Plus you don't want to take the chance of puncturing good MX tires.

Ok OK OK look, all you guys need is round tires, that's all, tires won't make any difference if the rider don't keep up, or can't stay on the trail, the same will be hiting a tree with one tire size or the other, so make sure they are round, put 5psi or so, and we will be good to go  ;)

Hmmm, tire size won't make difference :-\. We'll see when we get out on one of those nice long 2 - 3 miles stretches where it's nothing but 5th gear pinned and those lil 18's are a spinnin' their arses off. Of course it's gonna matter if you're gonna try and keep up w/ us loonies (Front group).  But if not, you'll be fine ;). If you're gonna go w/ that setup you may want to change your sprockets so you won't run thruogh your gearing so fast.

Also since noone else has posted this... Bring a Camelback It's gonna be very hot out there and you guys are gonna want some water in those trails. Bring a change of clothes for after the ride as well. I'm more than sure Felix will bring his grill so bring some food if you want to throw it on. If not, just bring something to eat while we're on break. Last Speed ride we started out w/ 18.... only 6 finished the ride :(.

oh ya, definitly going to need a camel, i forgot mine two weeks back and almost died! (not really but it sucked =P) and that wasnt on a speed ride. Cant wait for this ride. Hopefully i'll pick up some tips riding behind your crazy dudes so i can run in the front of the pack next ride.  ;D

Meeting on Sept. 3rd @ 9am right outside Big Scrub Campground in Ocala. Look for the line of trucks and quads directly across from the campground under the powerlines where forest rd's 588 and 573 intersect ;)

Some crashed and burned, some got scared b/c of the pace and turned around never to be heard from again (Guess they were ashamed), had a couple whos bikes couldn't take it, some were too worn out to finish the ride. Who'll fall into that group this time :o?

FILL THE CAMEL BACK UP TO THE HALF WAY MARK , THEN LAY IT DOWN ON THE COUNTER AND BLOW AIR INTO THE HOSE SO IT EXPANDS AND THEN PUT IT IN THE FREEZER OVERNIGHT! IN THE MORNING YOU CAN FILL IT THE REST OF THE WAY WITH WATER FOR ICE COLD  WATER ALL DAY ;)

You could PM YFZ450Tampa. He lives in Tampa and is supposed to be coming up. If that fails, you could come down I-4 and meet me off of the Old Circus World (Highway 27) exit.

Also, i come down highway 44 through wildwood (road with 75 chromo shop and such) and make my way past 75. Anyone know if it would be quicker if i got on 75 and went down it a ways?

I come from the south up the turnpike.  I get off the turnpike at the Wildwood exit 304 (i think it's 304, 302, 306, one of those numbers).  From the exit, it's about 20 minutes to the big scrub entrance by Bass Lake.  If you're interested in this route let me know and i'll get you better directions.

I would like to ride with everone. I rode once with dreth at the sound check in Ft Pierce a while back. Hopefully I will be there to help represent the Hondas.

I believe exit 301 leads onto hwy 44. but i havnt been past that... It's definitly not a 20 minute drive past 75 for me though, so if you could, write me up some directions and i'll check it out before the trip to see if maybe i can save some time. If not i plan on being an hour early anyway.

Everyone will have a good laugh at my bike and myself at the ride. I'm being forced to get new front tire's (since i have a plug in one) for the ride. And i dont think my pay check is going to come in time for me to get rear tire/wheel package.  two holeshots on shiney rims in the front, two stock bald tires in the back on dirty stock rims. lol 

Hey, don't worry about how your tires look... You're riding, that's the main thing. If you want em I have some Hole Shots that I'm trying to get ride of. Look pretty good and about 85 percent tread. Their size 18's. I've had a couple of guys that want to buy them but they want me to drive them to em I guess ::).

BTW... Here's my bike... 1989 blaster baby :D. I got it runnin like a YFZ450 though. Look at the tires on it...

gearhead, this is the route that I take from the south, although I think there is construction on 301 and 42 and the road may be closed???.  (301 does lead to Hwy 44, but I keep going past that intersection):

1.   Exit right (North) onto ramp onto S Main St (HWY 301)
2.   Turn right onto Cr-42   10.5 mi   
3.   Big Bass Entrance      15.8 mi

You can also take 301 and cut over Cr-466, NOT CR-466a (which is a few miles north of 44) to 27, head north on 27, and east on 42 (in case there is still construction on 42 and 301).  Note you still have to drive from the entrance up the dirt road back in to Big Scrub, which isn't included in the travel time

Total is about 25 miles (maybe more like 1/2 hour than 20 minutes).  The first map attached shows coming from the south.

Where specifically are you coming from?  It looks like 44 comes from the west coast from HWY 19?  If your coming from 44, I'd probably turn up 301 and follow the directions I gave you above.  My mom & dad live about halfway between the 301 exit and Big Scrub, and they think that's the quickest route.

If you give me where your coming from, I can find out from mom & dad the best route, they're always traveling around up there

i live in citrus county ON hwy 44 lol. i go through inverness to wildwood, once i get past 75 i take a left at my second light all the way down to cr-42 and then to big bass of course. i think taking 75 to 42 will cut about 10-20 minutes off, i just need to make a trip so i know where im going. Dont want to be late on the 3rd lol. Thanks for the directions!!! =)

Is good to know that you'r back fully recover men, I went to Bartow Saturday night, I have to practice a lot on the mx, I feel confident in must of the jumps, but I have to work a lot, so I can get real air. Woods and Mx, are very different

I'm headining up sometime Friday from the Ft. Laud area.  I'm trying to get out of work early and be on the road by 3:00 or 4:00.  I'm staying with my parents though, which is about 20 minutes before the entrance to big scrub.  I wouldn't get off at 40, that's further than you have to go.  I posted directions for what I believe is the quickest route at the top of this page of the thread.

actually 40 is the fastest route due to the speeds that you can travel and the lack of stop and go situations.


TRX450R_RACER im leaving my house at 5am! taking I95 to 40 west to forest rd 588 and go left for like 8 miles and your there! it takes me 3hrs exactly at 82 mph on 95 and 70 mph on 40. im in st.lucie county.

I requested off work and have made all the plans to go but yesterday went to go riding, checked oil, no oil in the bike. The bolt in the bottom of the oil tank is completely stripped.  :o  >:( So assuming I can get this fixed my boyfriend and I will be there.

So is there going to be a slow ride for the slower people who are coming up as well?

 I might be able to do that or not, just seeing if there is going to be two groups going the fast riders and one for slower riders.

 Make that 32 I'm bringing someone with me.

Tony I was thinking of leading one since I'll have the family with me maybe just trail ride and go hit a few of the pits. Especially since my quad has some issues at the moment....don't need to smack anymore trees right now. I'll just save it for the track.  :ThumbsUp.gif

Everyone else I was thinking about something...with it being labor day weekend we all know Scrubb is going to be nuts with people! Has anyone thaught about meeting somewhere down the powerlines from Scrubb? I'm alright with it either way but wondered what you guys thought???

Steve I was thinking of moving down a few miles east towards hwy 19 to go to Blue Sink for a swim in the afternoon and maybe hit the trails other side of 19. I kinda want to meet everyone tho so I figured we could move later on depending on how everyone is doing?

thats what we did the last time, we moved towards BS and the end of the day and went swiming.

BTW if you do that you should bring something to lock up the bikes because of the scum of the earth that will by eyeballing the bikes.

I have a 30' Kryptonite cable and a good lock we can use to lock the quads up just lock them all together.

If someone wants your quad that cable won't stop them, just slow them down a little. I have seen those cables taken a part before. They don't cut them. They take them a part where the loop is at the end. Don't get me wrong I use one also. I would never leave my quad unattended like that.

well if someone has a trailer big enough for one more quad, we could always just drive a vehicle down and leave our quads on the powerlines by all the other riders. But that takes the fun away from riding there lol.

I'll definitly be going to blue sink though. And if we dont stop by a pit on the speed ride as a break or something, i'll probably meet up with hollywood and hit the pit's.

That's a good point too TRX the more I think about it the less I want to leave my quad especially at blue sink even for a few minutes. Anyone know any other lakes/ponds in the area we could hit where we could keep the quads in site?

By chance, is anyone that's going on the speed ride going to be at ATP anytime this week.  I ordered a kill switch and a few other things.  I was hoping to have the kill switch for the ride this weekend, and thought maybe someone could pick it up and bring to the ride with them.  thanks

A blue sink swim is a great way to cool off in this heat.  We can take turns watching the quads.  Besides, we probably won't all swim at the same time anyway lest it turn into an infamous "dude pool" again.  ;D

Do any of ya'll care if we have a YZ426 & a KX65 on our ride ? It is my roommate & his son that want to come with us.

Dirt bikes zipping through the trails w/ 30+ quads :o. That could be alil dangerous in those trails. Their alot more prone to go down at these highspeeds and if it's dusty :-X.
But if they stay towards the rear they may be okay.

Yes Rob they will be cool. They won't be trying to be crazy & pass us or anything like that. Like I said it is my roommate & his son which is only 9.

IMO, the last speed ride we went on, I'm glad I didn't take my son because he would have never been able to keep up with the pace. When that happens you slow the rest of the pack down by waiting for the slower riders to catch up because you don't want to leave anybody in the forest by them selves. My son was 11 at the time and he rides petty fast in the woods just not fast enough for the speed ride. When we say speed ride its a speed ride WOT and don't let off.
BTW I'm not saying don't take the kid thats just an opinion of mine.

Thats why I asked if there is going to be a slower ride for people who are not going to be WOT.

I have to agree w/ T2 110 pecent. This is definitley not a ride for a 9 year old. There may need to be 2 groups this Saturday. Is there anyone that wants to ride this w/e that don't really think they can keep up on the Speed ride? We have quite a few bikes that'll be there this w/e so we should be able to get 2 nice groups. The 2nd group won't be a slowpoke group, but not quite as fast as the Speed group.

Wasn't somebody (?Hollywood?) saying they were going to be there with their family and hanging out at the pits and stuff? They could just hangout with them. Could be wrong but I thought thats what I read.

my  uncle drives and delivers  gas and he said they are a few days behind but  there will be gas.right now the stations are empty because of that rumor everyone is running and filling up lol.



well i already made plans around this weekend i am going no matter what.I have race fuel,and my truck  has a full tank so i am ready.Plus  i was sweatin I disagree off  getting my bike ready to go yesterday.

I heard on the radio that they will dip into the surplus if needed. I also heard Port Everglades is up and running again. Getting gas should be no problem, paying for it is a different story. I hope everone else is still in. I hope at least someone that knows thier way around the forest.

Cool, I "smashed" my GPS, I'll see if I can fix it, but I know a lot of the trails, and I'm sure a lot of guys know many others, so we will be OK.

A lot of people is buying more gas that what they need, thats why a lot of gas stations are runing out, but I'm sure they will fill  back by tomorrow

Why is it that everytime someone does the mature grown up thing around here, ie. putting familiy and finances before pleasure and fun. Someone has to throw out a negative. And what good did it do but tick people like myself off to the point that I need to post about it?

I have had to tell both of my kids 4 and 10 that I dont think we will be able to go to ocala because of fuel costs and availability at this time.

If we do anything it will be very close to home also.

Let me know if you can make it up atleast as far as us Dreth, maybe we can find somthing to do.

Sorry guys but I'm out too  :'( much the same reasons as Dreth fuel is getting scarce here we can't even get fuel for our trucks at work and we're one of the biggest trucking co. around. No trucks = no products to buy! :o Plus I got to be on call at work this weekend! I got bills to pay too and the budget is getting tight.  I'll most likely be at a track somewhere next weekend so long as I can get fuel. Just like Dreth said the family has to come first!

Lets move on.Its hard to please everyone.Everybody has a diff.schedule or reasons if they are going to make the ride or not.For the ones that can't make it,see ya on the next one.The ones that can make it,Big Scrub here we come.By tommorrow I'm sure some will have a better idea if they will make it.that includes myself. I want to ride this w/e more than ANY of you guys. But honestly I don't know guys. It cost me $80 to fill my damn truck up today :'(. That only gets me $380 miles (Damn 5.7 litre SUV >:(  )

My mother inlaw told myself and my wife where she saw on the news where they were considering cutting off the pumps tonite at 12am. If I wake up Saturday morning and there's no gas problems such as shortages or stations not having problems w/ supply I'll load up.

I should be there if all goes well selling truck before saturday, sorry to hear all the ones not coming, but hey ocala will be there when this passes, hopefully, oh yeah is Russ still around?

well i filled my truck up tonight  damn my truck never held $50  lol

i already made plans for the whole weekend up there with steve so i will be there forsure.I may run out of gas on the way home but i will atleast have fun while i am there  :D


they said within a day or so there will be stations full again

oh well my bike runs on race gas soooo as long as the truck is full i am good to go.

maaaaaan, main reason i wanted to go was so i could meet all the "hot shots" on the site lol. But gas prices are steep and i can understand not wanting to spend $80 to go ride when you could just  catch the same ride in a month or two. I have free tickets to universal this weekend (or any weekend) and a free $249 a night room to stay in, so if the ride isnt going to be top notch and IS going to be happening in about a month. I might hold off as well. By then i'll a have ALL new tires instead of just fronts :-D.

PM Hollywood. I think he's coming down from Jax. We'll be meeting at Scrub around 9am. But that's not the pullout time. We'll head out around 9:30/9:45ish. That'll give everyone a chance to make it up. So everyone needs to leave w/ the plan of getting there around 9am. That 45minute leave cushion will be for those that may run into problems on the road ;).

Everythings looking Okay so far as far as gas supply. We'll see how it goes tomorrow.

OK here is directions coming up from the south if you get on hwy 19.

Take 19 north past the town of Umatilla and then the town of Altoona heading north still on 19 and you will see the "Welcome to the Ocala National Forest" sign. Travel another few minutes more and on your right hand side you will see a blue sign that says rd 445 & Alexander Springs but DON'T TURN HERE. Pass that sign and get ready to turn left within like 1/4 mile or less onto forest rd 573 which enters hwy19 at an angle which you'll already be on. 573 isn't marked well so you might pass it your first time but its easy to know if you've gone to far because you will go under some of those tall-high powered powerlines that lead to Scrub and if you do just turn around. 573 starts off as pavement and then turns into a dirt road after a few hundred yards. Just stay on the dirt road for 7 miles and you will come to the campground on your right at the intersection of forest roads 573 and 588. Everyone will be parked on the left at that intersection under the powerlines directly across form the campground.

Go South on I95 to State Road 40. Go West on 40 to Forest road 588. Go South about 8 miles you will see the camp ground.

Hopefully I will be too. Rejetted my bike and was taking it out to make sure it was running right behind my house and the crack in my swinger has increased  :-\. No way that thing is gonna hold up in Ocala. Gonna stop by and friends house and put his on for this ride.

Alright I am in for the ride again, if there is fuel that is. I have to put the bike back together now. I know I wont be up in the front due to my injured foot so I have to take it easy for now luckly for you guys.

Jeep, Quad and Trailer packed, gassed and ready to roll..................alarm set at 6am to meet everyone down at Big Scrub..............loss of power (sometime in the evening), priceless. No alarm and didnt wake up until 8:30am..................Will need to hook up with you guys on the next ride.......I guess I should invest in a battery back up alarm clock.
