my dad and i are thinking of buying an new atv, either a bruteforce or a grizzly.  we like the grizzly a lot except for its horrible gas mileage(7-8 mpg).  we also like the brute force except for the fact that it has a mono shock.  Any suggestions and does anybody know the gas mileage of the bruteforce. [smiley=dunno.gif]

Brute force all the way.  They are fast as hell so hold on.  While the mono shock isn't as smooth a ride, they tend to do a little better over the woops.  Atleast that's what I hear from the ppl w/ IRS.

I ride w/ guys that have both.  In my situation I've seen the brute's out perform the grizz.  Also, my experience as a yamaha owner and friends that have ute yamaha's is that they go through brakes more often.

well, when you drag your rear brake for 20 miles,,,,it tends to happen ;-)  ;D

Funny Ida.  But really playing in the mud plan on redoing the brakes evern 6 months.

I know the 750 Brute has IRS it does't have A mono shock. But I'm not shure about the 650 Brute if it has IRS. My vote is for the Brute Force over the Grizzly. It just seems the Grizzly is outdated,that is what the quad mags are saying. Just my .02.

THe Brute 650 is mono shock.. The 750 is IRS. If you go with a 750 Brute, be prepared to buy aftermarket axles. Both the guys I know that have them have broken several stockers....

Test drive both machines. I took the Grizz over the Brute because of the weight of the Brute. Also, the Grizz has been the same except for I believe different axle sizes and the heat shield gimmick. All in all they are both tough. Check out highlifter.com forum threads.

My wife just got her new King Quad and that thing is bad a$$.
602 lbs., IRS, fuel inj. Got a 2 yr. warr. from Suzuki FREE and the reverse gear is warr. for 5 yrs. The 2yr. warr. ends today as it is a May promotion.

i was going for the 650 bf.  and the main reason my dad doesnt wanna get the grizzly because its horrible gas milage.  so i am really wondering if anybody knows the gas mileage of the bf.  and thanxs for all of the help.  [smiley=BigSmile.gif]

you might consider the Arctic Cat 650 also, it is IRS and runs the Kawasaki Power plant. there is one in the For Sale Section

It seems that in the ATV world the newest also means the most problems.  I have a Kodiak, so I only speak from what I have seen. The Grizzly maybe a little dated, but it is a very capable machine with its bugs already worked out. As far as MPG, our group rides the same trails and I have not seen a Grizzly have a problem making a long trail ride. 7-8 MPG is just not true.  

i read the grizzly gets 7-8 mpg in DIRT WHEELS and i also read it at powersportsnetwork.com under rider reveiws. At frist i wasnt sure if that was true but then when i read it in dirt wheels i was convinced.  The grizzly has a 5 gallon tank so that could be why.

well its a lot more my dad. im trying to convince him to get one of these because he wants to get a slow utility and im bugging him like crazzy to get one of these fast ones.  if it was me we would already have one and it would be suped up.  thats the reason i started this forum to convince him that theses bikes are good.  hopefully he will soon be a member as WHEELIE DAD. lol  ;)

I wouldnt go with any 4x4 other than the brute force. I watched this guy ride one in Durhamtown GA on a MX track and he was flying. I was in total shock to see a bone stock 4x4 hitting small tripples and large doubles.  This guy works at the track I forget his name but he also took that thing through some crazy mud with no problems. I couldnt be more impressed with that machine.  The grizzly is cool to but if read any 4 wheel magazines the Brute Force is untouched.

I HAVE AN 02 GRIZZLY WITH 28 IN OUTLAWS AND IT'S GETTING BETTER THAN 8 MPG, MORE LIKE 1O TO 12 DEPENDING ON HOW YOU RIDE IT . AS FAR AS WHICH ONE OF THE TWO TO GET, I LIKE THEM BOTH, SO I SAY LOOK AT THE SPECS ON THEM , READ THE REVIEW,S AND CHOOSE THE ONE YOU FEEL SOOTS YOUR NEEDS. 8)

is it fast with the 28's

do ute's really get that bad of gas mileage??

Everybody who knows me knows how hopped up my quad is, and I just did a ride this last weekend that totaled about 65 miles,,,,and I just hit my reserve tank about 5-6 miles from the end which means I didn't even go through 2.5 gallons of gas and traveled 65 miles.

this means a mileage of approximately 26mpg on a hopped up sport.

and no, I wasn't going 5th gear all the time, I had an average moving speed of about 13mph.

dirt wheels said they averaged about 7-8 miles per gallon on the grizzly and my dad hates that.

MPG will be dependent on a lot of factors. Slow tough riding in a lot of mud will eat up your fuel quick. Easy trail riding at 20-25 MPH will sip gas. I know for a fact that a Grizzly can get at least 80 miles on a full tank and that is 16 MPG. My Kodiak gets 20 or more in easy riding. I read the Dirt Wheels article also and they must have calculated wrong or have a problem with the bike they tested. I don't think any stock ATV could get such poor mileage as they reported.

I agree with sk8r_dude. my 450 kodiak gets 20* mpg easy trail ride, but eats gas in the soft mud or sugar sand on full trottle.  :-/

My buddie rides a Grizz, we did 77 miles and he didn't hit reserve. It's a little worse than my Vinson on gas.

Dont forget a Grizzly has more ground clearance stock and still has a lower center of gravity.

I am ahppy with my grizzly, plus grizzlies look better
