Title: gear box for buggy Post by: bocephus300 on January 04, 2009, 09:31:03 PM i need some help.. im building a swamp buggy and looking for a gear box. my cousin has 2 buggys with this particular box but just says they came off a "bush hog" i have searched for days but cant find the info.... the box has 2 shafts one input one out. both on the same side one is up high one is low.. its also gear reducted and reversed rotating... both his boxes have no model numbers or brand.

[url]http://www.profabmachineinc.com/quickchange.html[/url] I agree , Thats the transfercase we dream of but at almost $2000 a piece you better try to find a independent 205 out a 3/4 or 1 ton ,1974 and earlier dodge , ford , international . Unfortunately those old cases are very hard to come by. If you use a remote 205 behind another case that would give you a lot of gear options but that combo would be too long for most buggy wheelbases.
Tell us what tire, engine, trans, axle type and ratio you want to run and that would help with recomendations. Title: Re: gear box for buggy Post by: bocephus300 on January 06, 2009, 06:19:46 PM i already have a divorced 205 t case. the pro fab is not the one they have. its similar tho. the difference is that the pro fab has 1 input and 2 outs. the one my cuz has has 1 input and one output.. its purpose is that you can put the engine in the rear of the buggy backwards, then a driveshaft towards the front of the buggy into this gear box which, reverses and reduces the rotation/ direction toward the back again. form there it would head back into a divorced 205 t-case. its a little confusing but if you seen it in person it it would all make sence.
Title: Re: gear box for buggy Post by: bocephus300 on January 06, 2009, 06:38:24 PM the donor vehicle was a 77 f 250. it has built d-70 on both ends. it had a 4 speed manual tranny, a divorced 205 and a bb 429. i ditched the manual for a automatic c-6 tranny with a mounted 205. the tires i will be running are 20x24(49" tall). the axles have 4.56 gearing. if i cant find the gear box im looking for im going to run my divorced in the stock location, backwards. then put my engine in the rear and put a driveshaft from the automatic205 combo front out put to the front input of the reversed remote 205....
sorry to the people who dont know what im talking about or are not familliar with the subject. its very confusing. thanks for any help and advise guys! They are strong cases though ,but fall short on reduction. It is how they run inboards in the rear of a big boat, the engine is in the rear and power is sent towards the middle of the boat to the V-drive where power is then redirected back toward the rear to the prop shafts.

Like chilling said, let us know what tires, tranny, etc. you're running and we can make suggestions. I run a C6 into a 208 and then into 4.88 gears front and rear with 18.4 x 16.1's and have all the reduction I need. The only change I's make to mine is to go with late model O.D. tranny, many of which give you a lower first gear with the benefit of the overdrive up top. Title: Re: gear box for buggy Post by: bocephus300 on January 11, 2009, 11:21:59 PM well today i started the process i cut off the body and "bed" -platform looking thing it had today and started to cut off and grind the rivets for the cab mounts. im going to ordered some steel this week. i plan on pressure cleaning the frame and axles real good during the week. this weekends plan is to get the engine and the transfer case set up. hopefully i will be able to do the risers and deck supports.

I kept pictures of my buggy from start to finish and it is fun to now look back at how far it came.
