Here is Tyson's contact information: http://www.tyson.com/Corporate/CustomerService.aspx I encourage everyone to send them a message protesting their new Labor Day policy. Here's the email I just sent them: I am a father and a husband with a large nuclear family of 6 individuals. I am also part of a much larger extended family here in Florida. I am active politically, and I spend a large amount of time corresponding to a great number of people on a daily basis. From this moment on I will boycott Tyson products, In addition, I will inform everyone I communicate with of your decision, and encourage them to join me in the financial demonstration against Tyson's new labor day policy outlined in this news article. http://www.wsmv.com/news/17063986/detail.html#- Title: Re: Labor Day dropped for Muslim Holiday Post by: Able on August 06, 2008, 01:25:11 AM Here's their physical address and phone number. Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE: TSN) ----------------------------------------- August 5, 2008 4:04 PM EST Last Trade: $16.16 Business To Business Investors Careers Press Room About Tyson Giving Thanks at Mealtime > Printer Friendly Version << Back to Press Releases Labor Day Still Recognized at Tyson Foods; Union Contract Provision only at Shelbyville, TN Plant Springdale, Arkansas – August 4, 2008 – Contrary to recent reports, Labor Day is still a holiday at Tyson Foods. This issue concerns only the plant at Shelbyville, TN. The majority of employees at the Tyson plant in Shelbyville, TN, are represented by the Retail, Wholesale and Department Stores Union (RWDSU), an American union that asked for and received Eid al-Fitr, as one of their eight paid holidays, in place of Labor Day. This applies only to the Shelbyville plant and resulted as part of the union contract negotiated last fall. This change does not apply to Tyson Foods' other 118 plants. This is not a religious accommodation, rather, it is part of a union-initiated contract demand. This change came about as a result of union demands brought to the negotiating table, and was agreed upon by Tyson in an effort to reach a contractual agreement with the union. The contract that calls for this change was unanimously recommended by the 12-person union bargaining committee, which included three Somali employees. The contract was then overwhelmingly agreed to by 80 percent of the rank and file membership of the union at the Shelbyville plant. The Muslim population at the Shelbyville plant is primarily composed of approximately 250 Somali employees, who are political refugees, most of whom came to the plant as a result of refugee resettlement efforts based in Nashville. They were employed at the plant through the Tennessee Department of Employment Security office. The Shelbyville complex employs approximately 1,200 people. Approximately 1,000 workers are covered by the union agreement at Shelbyville. AMERICANS . not people claiming other citizenship but are here under political sanctuary. What's next give up the 4th of July because the Somali's don't want to disrespect their nation or origin's date of independence ?
If they want to come here because they recognize how great it is they should have to conform to our customs and standards, not try to impose theirs on us >:( Title: Re: Labor Day dropped for Muslim Holiday Post by: rancher1 on August 06, 2008, 05:43:19 PM I sent them an e-mail

Title: Re: Labor Day dropped for Muslim Holiday Post by: renmus on August 07, 2008, 06:17:02 PM Been thinking on this issue for a couple days. I believe that when I send my email to Tyson regarding this that I will also cc Publix and Winn Dixie. I feel that knowing that the middleman is aware that the final consumer is repulsed by this that a stronger point would be made.
Title: Re: Labor Day dropped for Muslim Holiday Post by: cheropride on August 07, 2008, 07:50:07 PM Oh yea, it pist me off too.... I emailed them, and then copied the article and forward to others.... Like I said in my email to Tyson, I feel like printing up the article and posting it up at all grocery stores down here... Funny thing is there stock prices keep fallilng, hope the keep falling...
But honestly, people need to get fired up about this kind of stuff, because if we don't, well let's just say this is just the begining.... Labor Day Reinstated as Paid Holiday at Shelbyville, TN, Plant Tyson Foods Requested Change from Union Springdale, Arkansas - August 8, 2008 - Tyson Foods, Inc. announced today it has reached a new agreement with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), an American union, reinstating Labor Day as one of the designated paid holidays under the contract for covered employees in the Shelbyville, Tennessee, plant. Tyson made this request on behalf of its Shelbyville plant employees, some of whom had expressed concern about the new contract provisions relative to paid holidays. In an effort to be responsive, Tyson asked the union to reopen the contract to address the holiday issue, and the union agreed to do so. The union membership voted overwhelmingly Thursday to reinstate Labor Day as one of the plant's paid holidays, while keeping Eid al-Fitr as an additional paid holiday for this year only. This means that in 2008 only, Shelbyville employees will have nine paid holidays. For the remainder of the five-year contract period, the eight paid holidays will include: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and a Personal Holiday, which could either be the employee's birthday, Eid al-Fitr or another day requested and approved by their supervisor. This issue concerns only the plant at Shelbyville, Tennessee. Labor Day has always been celebrated, and continues to be, at the other 118 Tyson plants across the country. The Shelbyville complex employs approximately 1,200 people. Approximately 1,000 workers are covered by the RWDSU union agreement at that location. Jeri Smith Consumer Relations Tyson Foods, Inc.
