Post by: Mudneck on March 27, 2008, 10:37:41 PM Ive been saying that all along. Over the 4th July holiday EVERYONE that drives for a living should shut down take a vacation for the whole week.It will take that long to have any effect on supplies.
Just like the person who posted the video about the Alaskas oil reserves....Government is keeping the Rich Richer. They could care less about the middle class. Were a dying breed. If the Fuel/gas goes back to $2 a gallon there loosing a 50% tax base. Why should they care about us. I FUUUUUUUUUUUING HATE POLITICS! Get er done truckers i wish it the TRUTH! Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! Post by: Slick89 on March 28, 2008, 01:20:57 AM Actually when i was talking to the drivers on the CB radio i could have sworn they said April 3rd. But it needs to be for more than just one day... think of it if they strike for one day the next days profit will be double if not triple. if they strike for like 3 or 4 days at the least..... then it will make a big impact...

Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! Post by: yunt2ride on April 01, 2008, 12:59:08 PM My brother drives and said that the ones running were gonna drive 55mph. I laughed and told him that there ain't none of them gonna drive 55 on the interstate when they can drive 70. Especially when they get paid by the mile. I also told him that 55 was not gonna do nothing but make the oil companies laugh at this so called, unorganized strike. ;D ;D ;D
Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! Post by: bluestroker on April 01, 2008, 01:08:45 PM I just talked to a buddy in Tampa and he said there was a line of about 50-60 trucks driving 35 MPH on I-75 in the slow lane

Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! Post by: tony pitts on April 01, 2008, 03:58:07 PM there is not enough independent truck drivers left to make a difference. corperations own most of the trucks on the road so now when cost of fuel goes up they jack their price up to match so guess who it cost more we pay more both ways. it will be up to america to do something about it and that will never happen i bought a xr650 to drive to work I only drive my truck when it rains. it ant much help to everybody else but it helps my pocket
Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! Post by: IXIswamperIXI on April 01, 2008, 04:58:42 PM OK I have a question (this will prove how uneducated I am) when we (US) buy oil from over seas, doesn't the US have an import tax based on a % (for example 1%) of the price for a barrel go to the US. (kinda like tax dollars) If so my thoughts are simply this 1% of $50 or 1% of $100 the US gets. They (US) would never want the prices that overseas companies go down because they would lose BILLIONS in taxes. I think they (US) would rather have tax money than have a company or companies drill, pull, refine, produce our own oil, and create thousands of jobs for US citizens. (and lower our gas prices)
Am I way off base here???? Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! Post by: shogun323 on April 01, 2008, 07:15:57 PM Here is the the best part. The EPA says we can't drill on the Alaska pipeline cause of Caribou. Screw the Caribou and turn them all into jerky. Her comes the true best though. There is enough oil currently 46 miles off the coast of Key West to solely supply the US for 16 years. THe EPA won't let America drill there meanwhile China and Mexico are drilling.
So the Chinese drill our oil that the EPA won't let us Then we in import a chunk of oil back from China So we can't drill for the environments sake, but others can and then we will be buying off of them? Sound bass akwards to anyone? Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! Post by: yfz450psycho on April 01, 2008, 07:30:33 PM EVERY BODY NEEDS TO GET TOGETHER AND NOT DO ANYTHING FOR 1 WEEK
Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! Post by: kawGIRL on April 01, 2008, 07:41:10 PM I have said this before, we could go without Arab oil, half of our clients at our company are oil companies, I have been there for 22 years, we went and cleaned up the Valdez spill, we do all kinds of Environmental Reports for all the major oil companies, the Government, the Navy and independent committees all over the world. So there is a ton of oil in Trinidad, South America, Indonesia, Russia, Alaska and THE GULF OF MEXICO! but if the US does not build more refinery's it won't work.
I heard on the news yesterday that when Bush came into office gas was $1.58 ??? It's all politics! >:( Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! The US news media failed to draw the obvious connection between the bizarre federal law enforcement investigation and leak campaign about the private life of New York Governor Spitzer and Spitzer's all out attack on the Bush administration for its collusion with predatory lenders. While the international credit system grinds to a halt because of a superabundance of bad mortgage loans made in the US, the news media failed to cover the details of Spitzer's public charges against the White House. Yet when salacious details were leaked about alleged details of Spitzer's private life, they took that information and made it the front page news for days. To the 9/11 fiasco, the Iraq War, the travesty of the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, and the shredding of the US Constitution, we can now add a deliberate and reckless undermining of the credit and banking system of the US to its list of "accomplishments." Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! We can build refinerys and the price will be the same because all the pricing goes through opec. Did anyone else see today that the senate is trying to role back those tax cuts that bush gave the oil companies. It saved them 19 billion dollars since bush cut them. Bush said he will veto the bill. :stoogies.gif I'm glad to say I didn't vote for this moron. Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! Post by: SkyHighT100 on April 01, 2008, 10:57:35 PM Honestly, I dont think getting the oil is our biggest issue - have you seen the latest profits for the oil companys??? How about they lower thier profit margin a bit - that alone would drop the price of gas considerably! Hell, with the money those guys have in thier bank accounts as it is - they' never feel the hit anyway - again its all about big business, big money, and big politics.
Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! Post by: Slick89 on April 01, 2008, 11:17:17 PM Thats why it cost more to buy eggs and milk these days. In fact a lot of goods are more expensive because they have to raise price to pay these drivers more to deliver
Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! Post by: kawGIRL on April 01, 2008, 11:25:32 PM The excuse for the high profits is because they are large companies ??? yeah right >:(
Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! Post by: Tecatematt on April 02, 2008, 12:43:57 AM That's a Cartel for ya ;) Pretty much we can't do anything about it, there is no power greater then theres when it comes to monitoring how they do business.
Pretty much Margin is Profit.. there is no such thing as them losing money but not making ENOUGH!! I really like the movie V for Vendetta for those have seen you know what I mean... I heard on the news yesterday that when Bush came into office gas was $1.58 ??? It's all politics! >:( Thats it in a nutshell! Why are there no new refineries being built in the US??? Boy the news was being generous. Gas was $.93 a gallon when Bush made office. When I was a kid they said there was an oil shortage. It was ALL BS. There is a man made shortage because OPEC dictates who pulls how much out of the ground to create a supply and demand scenario that works best for them. But I don't know what to do about it? Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! Post by: Ida_Mann on April 03, 2008, 06:36:37 PM you gotta be kidding me, the last time I saw a per gallon price for gas below $1 was in 1994,,,,I remember because I ran out of gas in my '74 malibu classic and fogot my wallet that day,,,,,I rolled into a gas station that I just happened to be next to and found $1.10 in change on the floor and bought just over a gallon of gas to get me home.
Id@ Title: Re: Truckers strike!!! Post by: JackL on April 03, 2008, 07:05:22 PM Energy crisis? Venezuela gas is cheaper than water
Taxi driver Jaime Tinoco works the streets of Caracas in a 1976 Chevy Nova that guzzles 19 gallons (72 liters) of gas a day. But he doesn't worry about fuel efficiency -- filling his tank costs just $2.30. While US consumers struggle with soaring energy prices, Venezuela's gas is now the world's cheapest at 12 cents a gallon and Washington's regional foe, President Hugo Chavez, vows to maintain subsidies that keep fuel dirt-cheap. "Those gringos have everything -- so why does their gas cost so much?" asked Tinoco between chuckles as he navigated a midday traffic jam. "Don't they have oil reserves?" Chavez, a self-proclaimed socialist and critic of President Bush, has even begun subsidizing fuel for poor U.S. neighborhoods as U.S. consumers brace for average summer gas prices of $2.71 a gallon -- 34 cents higher than last summer. In Venezuela, the world's No. 5 oil exporter, drivers fill their tanks for less than the price of a cheap breakfast, and love to point out that gasoline costs less than mineral water. The nation's gasoline is now the world's cheapest, according to an International Monetary Fund report released in April that shows Venezuelan gas prices as about a third of those in oil-producing giant Saudi Arabia. Shiny SUVs and rusty 1970s-era sedans share the streets of Venezuelan cities as drivers shrug off fuel costs. Low-priced fuel is considered a birthright in Venezuela, which sells 1.2 million barrels per day of oil to the United States -- the world's biggest gas guzzler. |
