Does anyone else think it's sorta silly that we celebrate Columbus Day when we know that Columbus didn't discover America?

Aren't we kind of lying to our school children? I understand that teachers are still stating that Columbus discovered America. Why is this?

I don't really care if you celebrate it, but don't close the banks and make sure I get my mail!

I mean,,,comeon, we gotta get the orders for the gerbils to you in the mail,,,,what's this country coming to?

After he "Discovered America" he went back to doing what he did best. He was a pirate and a slave trader and was arrested in the Dominican Republic and sent back to Europe in chains. He never set foot on US soil untill many years later. He actually landed the first time in the Bahamas and called the locals "Indians". He thought he was in India. Lets Roll 8)

Literary scholar Stephen Greenblatt alleges that Columbus "inaugurated the greatest experiment in political, economic, and cultural cannibalism in the history of the Western world."

Why be inconsistent now, we teach them to trust in Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, the Easter Bunny and W, too!

i never trusted the tooth fairy!

The toot fairly always struct me as a shady illicit back ally deal. I mean, you never got to meet face to face, and I always wondered if she was paying me so much for my teeth, that they were probably worth more on some other market.

I sure missed some good threads, yeah Leif Ericson rolls over in his grave every Columbus day for sure!!
