As you all know we are getting real close to losing the Holy Lands as a riding area due to trash. Sometime next month it would be great to get a buntch of people together and ride, grill, drink, and do some cleaning up out there. We can all hang bags from our racks and ride around. If you are wanting to ride there still it would be smart to due something quick. Let me know what you all think and what weekend day you would be up to it or free. Thanx!

Sports bike will be fine for the cleanup and the levy riding, but back in the mud probably not. Have you ever been out there?
If not, we will show you around and I am sure if everone gets together there will be other sport bikes to go to the places you won't get stuck!

And yes, I am DEFINETLY willing to help pick up the trash because we need to respect our riding areas. I just got done emptying a COOLER full of beer cans because I refuse to throw them out or even put them on my racks because they might fall off.

I understand that :) Thats why I said the assholes that fly up and down the levy!! I know that some of ya'll come out and actually utilize the place the best you can! I don't understand why the speed freaks can't keep it at the tracks designated for them, Macks big open area, or one of the other places to ride. And if one of ya'll comes back and says that the Holey Lands is one of those places, you're wrong. As mentioned before, the speed limit is !!25mph!!, so unless you like flooring it half way through first, take it somewhere else so that we can still have a place to ride in the mud.

I talked to Mike with SFWM yesterday to either get a dumpster out there for the trash or leave it in the corner of the parking lot and they will pick it up with a boom truck and claw. They are the one's in charge of Holey land. But we need to pick a definite date so they can organize this. Yesterday I told them May 8, Is May 15 a difinite date

This is a great gesture to FWC and everyone in charge of the Holey Lands/Rottenberger area to show how willing we are to participate in the upkeep of this place so that we may enjoy it in the future.
Someone go post this cleanup date on a tree-hugger website and see how many of them show up to help!! lol I think they'll be shocked that we actually have some enviromental concern!!!!! hehehe

I just got off the phone with SFWM and they cannot provide us with trash pickup. They say if they do SFWM is supporting this and if someone gets hurt we can sue them. I told him that for 10 years my GS troop has done waterway clean up and we sign a holdharmless to clean up releasing them from suite. He said he would let the powers that be know but doubts if we will get a dumpster. And they cannot support this clean up. I called channel 10 to see if we can get a story about the clean up and the reporter said she will call me back maybe they can come out and report on the clean up.

So why not call a dumpster company and say we are having a volinteer cleanup of the everglades and ask them to donate a dumpster. Also mention it may be televised or in the newspaper. Try calling the Sun sentinel and ask for publication.

Bring them just in case. The law state that if you are over the age of 16 you do not have to wear a helmet. As long as nobody is breaking that law I think we will be fine. Is 11 okay at the crossover. That gives us an hour to group up and start and than head down!
Why 11 am, we are heading out at the crack of dawn (8 ish). Be better to organize early I think. What time is the reporter coming?

I wish someone on here owned a T-shirt printing shop, then we could all have support shirts (ie- I helped clean the holy lands '05 or Holy Lands cleanup '05) you get the idea. good for the camera, I have been in the paper and on the news a handful of times for ocean cleanups and reef repairs.

Careful on that night ride! Last Friday night, we did it from 10pm to 3am. LOTS of water, 4x4s only and, at least, one ATV should have a winch. I can't imagine that much water drying up in only one week, but, I hope it has for you guys. I'd like to join you that night ride, but, I gotta be in Fart Myers at 8am Sunday.

Holey Lands Ride and Cleanup
On Sunday May 15th a local Broward County resident will be organizing the "1st Bi-Annual Ride and Cleanup" for the Rottenberger/Holey Lands Everglades area. The area is getting real close to closing down for riders due to trash. The cleanup will begin at 10 am on Sunday. Everyone will be meeting in front of the first pump station. Since the turnout of people is high now, the cleanup will only last about 2 hours. After, there will be a break to have lunch and then a group ride will start. One ride will be for the sport bikes and another for the 4x4 bikes.
Channel 10 news and the Sun-Sentinel are aware of the plans and showed interest in sending reporters. Hopefully we will get a great turn out because, the more people we have the faster it will get done. I hope to see you all out there for this event.

Directions: Take Turnpike to 595. Follow 595 to 75 North (it will say north but it is west). Take 75 to US 27 North. US 27 North about 20 minutes and on the left there will be a trailer selling peanuts. You will reach a little bridge on the Broward/West Palm County line signs. You will have to go to the next turnaround and make a u-turn. Take the road next to the trailer down. You will be on a paved road and than hit a dirt levee shortly after you go over a bridge. You will see signs for Rottenberger and Holey Lands. Follow the levee down about 10-15 minutes. The pump house is on the left hand side.

The last couple of clean-up's we have done were for 6-8 hours :( lot of work and not much riding. These clean-ups were in fairly small areas (5-8000 acres) The event was to use your ATV's to clean-up not ride, we towed trailers out to put the debris in and to carry coolers of ice & water. If the media is showing up just something to consider. ;)
We have a ton of people comming, or so they all say. Alot from out of town though. There are only two areas that there is trash. The little camping area by the pump house and than the crossover. It would only take 2 hours with 15 people.
yeah, it should not take long at all, anyone got a trailer for their atv?
There are 2 trailers coming out that I know for sure! ;D All we need to do it hang the bags off our bikes. If everyone fills a bag than we will be good!

Hey Everyone
I had a really good time. Sorry the news crew didn't show, they said they were coming. However I talked to alot of the people just riding out there , they thanked us and maybe will be joining the site. Let's keep this effort alive, a challenge to all of you to start the next clean up somewhere. Maybe the next time 100 people will show. I really want to thank Muddygirl for organizing this clean up and all your had work its nice to see that younger people care. Thanks everyone who came out to Holey land on Sunday to clean up.

Sorry I haven't been able to respond yet. We left on Friday and camped Friday and Saturday and didn't get home until Sunday at 9pm.
I want to thank everyone who showed up. It is amazng how much of a difference our 2 hours of effort made. It looks REALLY good out there. It was amazing what other people did also. A coupel people that were out there (and not with us) saw what we were doing, grabbed some trash bags, and started helping us out. Thank you everyone! Keep your eyes open for another cleanup in a couple of months. Hopefully we will get more people out there. YOU GUYS AND GIRLS ARE AWESOME!!!!!!! Thank you again!
We went to the south pump house first, its where we like to fish (go past the first pump house and go south on the dirt road) we cleaned that spot up first then came back up the first. we met a bunch of cool people out there, had a good time. Also big shout out to Asphalt Dragon, holy crap was his bike muddy. We went and washed our bikes at the ramp (that 5 gal bucket works awsome dont it).

I work Sat, but still going Sunday. You need a license, they do ask out there. If you already don't know you can get one from a bait store, Bass Pro or Wal Mart.
Have one just need to renew! Haven't had anyone to go fishing with for a while. What time are you planning on getting out there?

In fla you can wait until your getting on the boat and call 888-347-4356 24hr/day and order your license.It works great! That way , if you have nasty weather or something comes up last minute you haven't bought the license. Remember , it good for 1 yr from the date of purchase

I am just getting used to being single again, after living together with someone for almost 8 years. Kinda lonely sometimes, and haven't dated in like 9 years. So its kinda different to be completely alone now. (ok enough of that)
