Title: O-Ring VS. Non O-Ring, opinions please. Post by: 310R_Dude on October 05, 2006, 05:48:21 PM What do you peeps like better? An o-ring chain OR
a non o-ring chain. I ride MX with this quad. I usually get non o-ring but this last time I got an o-ring chain. I read, or was told, once that it robs about 1 horsepower. I sure can feel the drag as I spin the tires when washing the quad :( Well... let me know what ya'll think. Dano Title: Re: O-Ring VS. Non O-Ring, opinions please. Post by: 53yfz450 on October 05, 2006, 06:15:46 PM well a o-ring chain does weight more so i can understand that. and its supposed to last longer... i think thats bull..... if you get a non o-ring chain and wd-40 it after every wash it will last a long time. every o-ring chain i had lasts no more than a non o-ring.
Title: Re: O-Ring VS. Non O-Ring, opinions please. Post by: UncleRico on October 05, 2006, 06:30:28 PM I've never heard that you can lose or gain horsepower by having a non o ring chain.
O-ring chains are suscepitble to damage from solvents that can get inside of the o-rings and destroy whatever lubricant your using. Be careful when cleaning your bike when you have a chain with O rings. I always thought the idea was to have longer chain life with less maintenance. I never heard of it (or thought of it) as a PERFORMANCE issue. Title: Re: O-Ring VS. Non O-Ring, opinions please. Post by: 53yfz450 on October 05, 2006, 06:33:16 PM believe it or not it does rob some power. think of it. its just more weight for your motor to spin. thats why alot of people use billet hubs and sprockets.

Hmmm....how much weight savings is in the chain? I imagine the transfer of power would depend more on the slackness, or lack there of, rather than the weight. But I understand what you're saying from a theoretical aspect. Interesting point. Title: Re: O-Ring VS. Non O-Ring, opinions please. Post by: 310R_Dude on October 05, 2006, 07:21:17 PM The power robbing is not just from weight, it's also the constant
friction of the o-rings themselves. Imagine if your brake pads were ever so slightly dragging on the rotor. That would be about the same, I think?! Anyway, just wanted to see what you guys thought. Thanx Dano P.S. I'm prolly going back to non o-ring next time. Title: Re: O-Ring VS. Non O-Ring, opinions please. Post by: 4fittyr on October 05, 2006, 09:55:00 PM after you wear out the factory o ring without masterlink, then go with the non oring because you can buy 2 chains for the price of 1 oring just remember to buy one with 8500 tensil streghten

That picture was taken after I got back from QS#1. I threw my chain in the race. I had just washed the quad and took some pictures before I got it unwrapped from the front sprocket Title: O-Ring VS.
