Title: Legal Help (sort of) *UPDATE*
Post by: LakeMaryKid on March 01, 2006, 06:35:42 PM
Well I have been looking at a truck for a LONG time now. Im 15 and turn 16 in August (3rd to be exact) I am about a grand shy of the amount needed for the truck, but could come up with it in no time, maybe even get a loan. Now here is where the help is needed. At 15, am I able to purchase the truck and have my name on the title? Could i purchase this truck and have it be legally mine? Or do i have to be a licensed driver? This is literally my dream truck and been busting my arse to try and get it. I want to buy it now before it is sold and i cant get it anymore.

Here is a picture cause i know yall wanna see.

nice truck bro.

its an awesome feeling the first time you get a truck.
it feels even better when you earned it and it wasnt given.

sorry i dont know the answer. not sure if a minor(meaning you would have to be 18) can have a car titled to their name.

gery350 ;D

you have to be 18 to have your name as the first on the title, if u are under 18, u can have someone who is 18 or older as the first name, and then yours as the second(thats how my truck is)

When I got my car at 16 I could have put it under my name but the insureance  would have been a lot higher. It comes out cheaper to have it under ur parents name.

"There is not a statutory age limit on any persons for ownership of a motor vehicle. However, you may want to check with the insurance company before titling vehicle in the name of a minor. "

I had 2 vehicles in my name when I was under 18.

I was under 18 when I got my first car, had my name on the title and the insurance. I paid for it all.

LMK, see if the guy will hold the truck with a down payment, then make payments as you can. I bet by the time you're 16 it'll be paid for.

With todays day and age, i wouldnt trust anyone. Anyways it is already almost payed for. Its just a matter of being able to get the truck with my name on the title but under my parents insurance. One reason for my name on the title is so if they say they couldnt take it away from me or if i did take it they couldnt say it was stolen(not that they would). Main reason is they cant take it away as i paid for it all.

one word of advice....as long as you live in their house they can take whatever they want from you....actually until your 18 your not a legal adult and they can do what ever they want....no insurance no drivey.....just stay out of trouble and you won't have to worry about them taking it away....

I don't really know your parents curtis, but I wouldnt worry about them taking it away. I know the only way my parents would take away my vehicle is if I got in a lot of trouble (drugs, DUI, etc..) Hopefully you know better than that. ;)

Good thinking LMK, I drove with my parents at first just so I could drive. One part was nice though, my mom had just bought a brand new Firebird with a 350. That thing was so nice to drive.

LMK,

I got my first car at 17 and my mom wanted her name nowhere near it LOL. I had the title and insurance in my name alone with no problems

OK so LMK thinks young parenst are stupid, so lets all tell our kids that we where stupid for having them. Thats kinda like telling them that we wish we hadnt, Wich i know for a fact 99% of the Mature young parents wouldnt take it back
Ok to begin with your pulling words out of my mouth. Second of all you make absolutely no sense. Too bad another one of you will be running around, and you prove to everyone your the 1% immature young parents. Please cut the bullcrap in my thread before it gets deleted.

Also, not sure if i was clear enough in my first post, but what i am wanting to do is buy the truck before im 16. Even though i am not licensed (permit only) would i still be able to get my name 1st on the title?

LMK,

If I remember correctly, if the truck is registered in your name you have to have your own insurance.

If the truck is registered to your parents, then you can get on their policy and save BIG $$$$ on insurance.

Also I don't see any reason you cannot register the truck in your name if you purchased it.

even if they couldnt take your truck or whatever, they can take your license.

Well i am halfway there. Now i need to find myself some insurance. Did progressive's online quote and was quoted 387 a month or 2017 in full. Looks like insurance is going to kill me!!!!!! My dad is going to check on Monday to see about going with their insurance company as i am going to need my own insurance since i will OWN the truck. After this it is just getting the money together. i have 2807 in the bank with 100 bucks on my desk then 180 from work. So by spring break maybe i will be close. Gonna see what the guys bottom dollar is on the truck. Thanks for all the help!

 8) Well that is nice truck your buying.
Well my dad had a 94 f250 and we did alot hualing
around for 12years and he trade his truck last year
in 2005 for a 2002 f250  4x4 cab series for 19,999$ .

No matter what that truck is going last long time you have to change
tranny a few times if have 2wd model and you might to fix  light switch
if it burns out if rode on alot bad dirt roads for while. We went to junk
yard took it out of old ford bronco it work great never had problem since.
Plus get some matching brand new tires for it,
don't get used tires they wear out to quick
and sometimes they cuase a  major wreck.

Well at least it hads bigger bed.
I do pressure wash my dad's used 2002 pickup truck
once every 1 or 2 months if truck hads mud all over truck,i do clean mud fp's
right off and even whole truck.
Then we take to a car wash  once month. At least 4x4 drive
will do good for you on bad dirty muddy roads in long run.

Thanks,
amhighlander  8)

Even back when I started to drive, the insurance cost more than the car I drove. I didn't care, I had wheels, and I was able to go somewhere when I wanted. No more bumming rides. I took drivers ed. to lower the cost some, over the years it paid off good. Keep up the good work.

Yeah, at 400 bucks a month, that wont leave much for gas or for the mods i want to do to my truck (w/e truck i do get) Basically i will get it to drive and show off in every now and then. So no gas so lots of time to save.

Good looking truck LMK, legally you can buy it at any time, just making it road worthy is the challenge, golly gee 16yr old kid with a 4X4 truck I suppose a V8 also. I can see why the insurance is high. we've all been there. High risk is every teenager. enjoy it Curtis
