Title: Jetting on a banshee?
Post by: TurboBanshee_kid on February 28, 2006, 07:05:47 PM
Ok I took my Banshee all apart to powder coat the frame and when I got the engine out of the frame I took it to my Banshee shop and had them look at it. Well the engine needed new cylinders so I got brand new 2005 ones. My old ones were ported and the new ones are not.  I did not have the money to port the new ones, so they got the engine in like new condition.  I put the engine back in the frame, put my Toomey T-5’S back on and got the bike all together and the BIKE IS TOO RICH!

PIPES are Toomey T-5’s

What the jets are at right now: 280 for the mains: too rich!

The pistons are wiseco STD bore.

The head on the engine is shaved.

I live in Florida it is always about 80 to 90 degrees here.

What should all my jets be at right now?

I would like it to be a little rich to be on the safe side.

i think 280 would be about right... i ran 300-310 in mine on stock cylinders and t-5's.  your running stock carbs i assume? why did you need "new" cylinders?

i  why did you need "new" cylinders?

That is exactly what I thought as I read this. I wouldnt understand why you would have to give up a set of ported cylinders for new stock ones?

The right cylinder cracked on the wall were the pistons rubs.

When the bike to running it is smoking alot. does that mean it is rich?

I have 270 main jets should i use them?

yes stock carbs. I called toomey racing and the tech said 270's. and the stock pilot jets 25?

My concern with you switching out your cylinders was, if you had a lot of money in port work tied up in those cylinders, then you should of just sleeved them, and brought them back to what ever bore size you wanted.

smokey is OK but does it run bad? boggy? sluggish?  what oil are you using? what ratio?

yeah, resleeve and go....now the money in the port work is wasted....going from portwork to no portwork in theory if my mind serves me correctly you should increase the jet size, because you have less air flow which in returns reduces amount of fuel flow through main jet....I could be wrong....i ususally mix 32 to 1 on all oils, 50 to 1 on amsoil dominator...get your oil mixture right, then work on the jetting...set the pilot while it is idling, then set the needle, get it in 3rd gear and roll idle it down riding it, roll on the throttle, if it is bogging, needle needs adjusted down....then work the main jet with plug chop once you are in ball park....always worked for me...
