Title: Rev limiter on 2006 Z50??? Post by: Hibrass on February 21, 2006, 01:50:46 PM Hiya All....!
My son recently got a Suzuki 2006 Z50.. Great bike so far.... Except for one thing.... it is limited to about 8MPH... The motor pulls great up to a certain point and then it appears an electronic governor kicks in... Does anyone know how to bypass this??? Thanks, Hibrass Title: Re: Rev limiter on 2006 Z50??? Post by: greenmachine on February 21, 2006, 06:26:52 PM Call one of the mini quad builders like Hetrick racing or Kool Kidz Atv or send an email, they always answer quickly & usually with a line on the product you need. I just ordered some carb jets & a rear sprocket from Kool Kidz Atv & got the product promptly. Good luck & welcome to the world of mini madness, there are a lot of aftermarket performance parts for all of these little guys & you can actually make a 50 run over most stock 90's on the market for a few hundred bucks.

Post by: BIGWORM3699 ( ECP RACING) on February 23, 2006, 07:57:08 AM You will have to start by removing the restrictors in the exhast and intake first.I have a modded LT50 and its ok but the LT50 is very limited on performance. You can see pics on my web site of our LT 50. The link is in my signature let me know if I can help.

Hello Everyone! Thanks for the feedback...! I have learned a few things about the new 4stroke gas Z50... First off there is no restrictor like in the old A50 2stroke... Suzuki has put a spacer in the CVT clutch to limit the speed to 8 or 8.5 MPH... So this weekend I will be taking this out and testing the machine again and see how it performs... I will update this thread after the test!! More later, Hibrass Title: Re: Rev limiter on 2006 Z50??? Allso if you could take a pic. of the clutch set up for me I interested to see if it the same as the other I have been tuning. If it is With some more tweaking can get more speed out of it. Thank you

Hello all!!! I removed the governor spacer from the front engine pulley this Saturday! What an improvement! I wasn't able to get any pics due to the fact that my wife was in NC with the camera... But the process isn't that bad... Suzuki did a nice job setting up the new Z50 to work on... All you have to do is the following... 1) Remove the left foot floor pan. There are about 7 plastic rivets, 2 Phillips head screws and to 10mm bolts. 2) Remove left foot floor pan support mount. This is just 2 12mm bolts... 3) Remove the 7 8mm?? Belt drive case cover bolts and breather tube. 4) Carefully remove belt case cover so as not to damage the casket. 5) I didn't have the "Special Tool". But at this point I did get my impact wrench out and a 16mm socket to remove the primary "Front pulley" nut... Once this is removed the pull start sprocket will come off. With no need to remove the 3 hex head bolts. At this point carefully remove the outer pulley plate and move the belt out of the way... No need to remove the belt completely. Once the belt is out of the way you can slide out the remaining centrif pulley assembly. Note be careful the starter spur may fall out on you not a problem just beware of it... 6) Once you have the centrif pulley assembly out you will see the spacer sleeve as describe in the Owners Manual. Remove it... (Duh.) ;-) and reassembly the centrif pulley. Note again that the carrier sleeve has a flange on the end of it and that must be pointing back at the motor. I don't know how I did it but I put it in backwards the first time... 7) Once you have the main half of centrif pulley back on the Motor output shaft put the belt back in place and carefully center the outer pulley plate and pull start sprocket. I snugged this down slowly until everything was square before torqueing the main nut... 8) After that reverse steps 1 thru 4 and you are golden!! My Son was really excited after we got everything check out... I even had to take some throttle out of it, as it was really moving. I haven't had a chance to speed check it but I think it is going about 20MPH max right now... With full throttle it may go to near 30MPH! I will update the speed later once we have a chance to test it in Bull Creek this weekend! Later, Hibrass Title: Re: Rev limiter on 2006 Z50??? Could this method be used to raise the Top Speed on a Raptor 50 also????? ??? Title: Re: Rev limiter on 2006 Z50??? Post by: Hibrass on February 27, 2006, 12:28:03 PM YFZ450,
I don't think so... :-) Two completely different bikes... And remember I still need to confirm the true speed increase this weekend... Good Luck on the Raptor 50! Hibrass Title: Re: Rev limiter on 2006 Z50??? Post by: Hibrass on March 06, 2006, 07:53:58 AM 03/06/2006
Well we got a chance to test the Mini Z50 in the field this weekend! Boy does it run! It is not as fast as I thought.. Right now with the Thumb throttle restricted to 3/4 of it's movement he is going about 15 to 16 MPH. Which right now is plenty for him. Runs really well it will even spins the tires in the sand!!! I think with full throttle it would be capable of about 20 MPH but I will have to see about that later right now we are still trying to get his technique down heheheheh Later, Hibrass |
