kfx 400 knocking

I know some one already posted about this but my kfx is makeing a knocking or pinging noise and i took it to the dealer and it stoped for about three days.  But it still runs fine. I was wondering is this a big problem or is it ok to run like this.

could also be the timing chain if its a rattling noise, hard to tell you wants wrong with out hearing it...

There is an old but sure way to determine where and what the sound is. Take a long screwdriver, and with the engine running, put the butt end of the screwdriver up to your ear. Put the metal end of the screwdriver against the head and listen for the tick. Then put it on the crankcase and listen. If it is a ticking noise in the head, it is most likely the valve adjustment. If it is a knocking sound from the crankcase area, then it is your crank bearings.

I tried to adjust the valves but they were fine so i took it to the shop and they charged me 134.99 to tell me that it was the timeing chain tentioner and the quad was fine!
So i basicly paid 134.99 for an oil change
                                          Oh whell its only money.  Right?

You can modify the stock chain tensioner to give it more travel and stop the noise...
