my bike was turned off and started like 4 times in a row.....
i went to start it again n it went TAC. and wudnt turn on n the greeen neutral lgiht runed off. it came back on after a little while n went tac agasin once i pressed to start my bike.
i charged my battery to full. i put it on. this time the light stays on , but bike jsut continuously goes TACTACTAC  when i press the start button.

we checked and there IS spark coming from the relay , we tried to put it directly by getting the wire and connecting it to the battery n it STILL wudnt start , btu wouldnt click either.and the neutral lgiht turned off.
we then put it back on.
n still nothing.

now I think that is either the starter , or the relay...

anyone had this problem before??
anyone think they know what it might be??

thanks.

You battery is probably old and even when you charge it, it does not have enough power to crank that 416 motor just enough to run that tinsy little light...

Why don't you borrow a friends battery that you know works for half an hour and see if it works???

I had this problem with mine before also. I forget, it is either the battery or replace the fuse behind the left rear fender in front of the battery. Im pretty sure it is the battery, have you tested the voltage in the battery yet?

the fuses are good we testeds the voltage in them.and we also tested the voltage in the battery. the tac tac seems to be coming from the tube(starter) above the back part of the engine.the starter.
My dad is positive it isnt thew batery. but ill try with my neighbors 300ex battery tommorow.

Try your neighbors battery tomorrow and if that doesn't work then you might have tore up your starter. Is your motor higher compression than stock???

When our 400 has a low battery (preety often  Roll Eyes), it does that, just goes nac nac nac, like a baseball card clipped onto a bicycle in the cartoons.  It's always been the battery when it clicks.  Our neutral light also acts up sometimes.  Don't you wish the 400 came with a backup kickstarter, and you could just take off all of the electrical junk.

Another thing to try is, with the charger hooked up and at 10 amp output, try to start it after 30 minutes charging time. If it starts, then it's most likely the battery needs replacing. If the battery is not a sealed type, be sure to top off the water level before you charge it.

If it is not your battery than the high compression piston culd have messed up the starter... But it sounds like a common battery problem. My sisters Raptor 80 did that when the battery died.
